Oslo, Norway From Hammerfest B.Sc. Informatics, UiO 2025

Adrian Klo Gamst.

Informatics graduate from UiO. I work mostly with cloud infrastructure and full-stack systems, and I'm looking for engineering roles starting 2026.

I grew up in Hammerfest, about 600 km north of the Arctic Circle. Two summers in high school I worked as a fish farmer at Cermaq, mostly feeding fish and cleaning nets at a site that produces around 100 tonnes per cycle. Probably the most physically tiring job I've had, and the only one where mistakes had consequences for live animals. I moved to Oslo in 2022 to study informatics at UiO.

I finished my bachelor's in 2025 with a focus on programming and systems architecture. Most of what I find interesting sits on the backend and cloud side. I like working on things that have to keep running, and I've started writing ADRs because I keep needing to look up why I picked one option over another a few months later.

Førstegangstjeneste from late 2021 to early 2022, and I now serve as nestlagfører in HV-17, the Home Guard district covering Finnmark. Outside of work I lift weights and read non-fiction, mostly history and engineering writing.

Currently

Two projects in production. An ML pipeline on Azure (Football Predictor, with nightly retraining gated on AUC) and a multi-cloud full-stack app (Job Application Tracker on Render plus four Azure services for search, caching, rate-limiting, and observability). Both deploy through GitHub Actions and Bicep. On the side, letting Claude build me a paper-trading system to see where LLMs hold up and where they don't. Available for engineering roles starting summer 2026.

Job Application Tracker

Full-stack job tracker split across Render (Spring Boot backend) and four Azure services: Blob Storage for documents, Cache for Redis for caching and auth rate-limiting, AI Search for full-text across notes and interview feedback, and Application Insights for observability. Bicep IaC, GitHub Actions CI.

Football Match Predictor

Full-stack ML application predicting match outcomes from 40,000+ historical fixtures across nine leagues. The production model is a stacked ensemble (XGBoost + RandomForest with a logistic-regression meta-learner), retrained nightly with TimeSeriesSplit CV. A Container Apps Job runs the retraining and validates AUC against production before promoting new models. Frontend on Vercel, Flask API on Azure Container Apps, provisioned via Bicep IaC, deployed through GitHub Actions with OIDC.

Fish Farmer (Røkter)

Cermaq Norway · Hammerfest, Finnmark

Two seasons working at one of the largest salmon producers in Norway, on a site producing over 100 tonnes per cycle.

  • Monitored fish health, feeding regimes, and environmental measurements daily
  • Operated and maintained sea pens, including net inspections, cleaner-fish handling, and equipment upkeep
  • Worked solo and in teams in all weather conditions, following strict HSE routines

Retail Associate

Coop Extra · Hammerfest, Finnmark

Customer-facing retail work in a high-volume grocery store. Checkout, restocking, and customer service in a fast-paced environment with heavy footfall.

Earlier roles · Park guard at Parktjenesten · Newspaper carrier at Finnmark Dagblad

I work mostly in Kotlin and Python. Kotlin for things that need authentication, persistence, and state to keep working under load. Spring Boot has been my default there. Python when the work is mostly data or model-serving, with Flask in front. Frontend is React with Vite and plain CSS. C came up in coursework, including a kernel project that involved a lot more debugging than I expected.

The cloud side is where I've spent most of my time the last year. Azure for everything that goes near a user database: Container Apps for compute, Bicep for the infrastructure, Blob and Key Vault for storage and secrets, AI Search when I need full-text, Cache for Redis, Application Insights to see what the running app is doing. Render and Vercel get the rest. Deploys run through GitHub Actions, authenticated via OIDC, so there are no long-lived secrets in the repo.

Postgres for relational data. XGBoost and scikit-learn when I need a model, Pandas and NumPy for the data shaping in between. I default to managed services when one exists; the time spent maintaining a custom cache or search backend usually wasn't worth it the last time I tried. Most of my recent projects have ADRs in the repo, since I keep needing to look up why I picked one option over another.

Education

University of Oslo

B.Sc. Informatics: Programming & Systems Architecture · 2022–2025

Studied at the Department of Informatics. Coursework spans the full software stack, from operating systems and networks to algorithms, databases, machine learning, and two semesters of team-based software engineering project work.

Service
